How Smoking Ruins the Social Life

If you are single, or just someone who likes to socialize a great deal it is important that you know some very interesting facts:

  • Studies have shown that more than half of actively dating singles would choose not to date someone who was a smoker.
  • More than twenty percent of one survey group admitted that they had dumped someone because they were a smoker.
  • A staggering 65% of another study group knew someone who had, or had themselves, hidden a smoking habit from a partner.

Clearly the statistics from such studies indicate that more people prefer to get involved with non-smokers. Realize that this is not just due to the fact that smoking is unhealthy, it is also deeply unattractive. Although more than fifty percent of Hollywood films show the star or an admirable character lighting up, none of the films show this same “glamorous” figure hacking away with the typical smoker’s cough. Nor do such fictional depictions show that person with yellowing teeth, disease, or an offensive odor. These are not uncommon side effects of smoking, however, and are a primary reason that people will avoid getting involved with a smoker.

Consider too that millions of restaurants, bars, and public places in locations like France, England, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Canada and the United States are one hundred percent smoke-free. This means that someone who insists on smoking is going to limit their dating pool to the small group of people clustered outside of such locations instead of the huge number happily eating or socializing indoors.

It is also important to consider the statistics and facts tied to sexuality, reproduction and smoking too. Someone who becomes involved with a smoker is going to know that they will be exposed to secondhand smoke, will be interacting with someone who might face infertility, impotence or a lack of libido. These are all common issues connected to the use of most tobacco products, and smoking is also a major cause of underweight and unhealthy newborns too – even if the mother is only a secondhand smoker.

Lastly, a final reason that smoking will ruin the social life is the simple fact that smoking is an incredibly expensive habit. In places like New York City a single pack can run upwards of ten or eleven dollars. Someone who dedicates a serious amount of their budget to the purchase of “smokes” might waste from fifty to seventy dollars per week on their habit, and this is money that might have been directed at much better entertainment.
